Postdoctoral fellow, Stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease Research : new orleans, LA, United States

Post doctoral fellow positions are available to work on a project for stem cell therapy for a Stroke, Parkinson’s (PD) or Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The project involves multi-institutional collaborative effort and world-renowned leading stem cell research team. We use a multidisciplinary approach that involves molecular, cell biology, biochemical techniques, confocal microscopy and stem cell transplantation into rodent models of Stroke(tMCAO model), PD or AD (Lee et al, Nature Medicine, 2007; Eckert et al (Lee lab), Stem Cells Translational Medicine, 2015). We also study the effect of aging and role of stem cells on neurovascular and blood-brain barrier repair, which will offer insight in conditions such as PD, AD, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The types of human neural stem cells we are evaluating include cells isolated directly from the central nervous system and indirectly derived from nonneural stem cells such as embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). We seek to identify the best sources of stem cells for various therapies, combinatory therapies strategies, that will synergize with stem cell modalities (combination of pharmacological and cell therapy), study the anti-inflammatory role of stem cells in various brain diseases.
Preferred Candidates will be a PhD or MD with a relevant background either PD, AD or stroke research with rodent/mouse model, western blotting, tissue culture and confocal microscopy.
