In this project we are analysing how cell migration and signalling pathways that control migration are regulated by the microenvironment including mechanical cues and growth factor gradients. As model systems, we are studying cancer cell invasion and mesenchymal stem cell migration. We are using state of the art molecular and cell biology methods including advanced imaging technologies (such as FRET/FLIM) and biosensors that allow the monitoring of biochemical processes (G-protein activities, kinase activities) in living cells. This project is in collaboration with nano-engineers enabling us to generate controlled environmental conditions through the use of micro-engineered devices and nano-fabricated surfaces.

  Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist with expertise in the analysis of cell signalling pathways, in particular using imaging approaches, and molecular and cell biology techniques. The post-holder will perform the experimental work, but work closely with colleagues from computational science, mathematics, chemistry and engineering as part of an interdisciplinary team. If interested, there is also scope for the post-holder to develop and apply theoretical modelling skills in addition to the experimental work. This presents a unique opportunity for creative individuals who want to work at the cutting-edge of systems biology.
