A postdoctoral position is available to study the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a devastating neonatal intestinal inflammatory disease that occurs primarily in premature infants. Specifically, the project will focus on the cellular mechanisms that regulate normal intestinal development, epithelial proliferation and differentiation, and how exposure to bacteria and bacterial ligands may promote or disrupt these homeostatic processes. The research will be performed in the Departments of Pediatrics and Immunology at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT, with strong collaborative input from investigators at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, Farmington, CT. The project involves the use of mouse models, human intestinal tissues, and various cell culture-based techniques to characterize developmental and innate immune signaling pathways that contribute to the pathogenesis of NEC.

A Ph.D., as well as proficiency in cell culture, expertise with recombinant DNA and RNA techniques, and prior experience with advanced microscopy techniques are required. A strong background in innate immunity is highly desirable. Please email curriculum vitae and the names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of references to Dr. Adam Matson (Amatson@UCHC.edu), University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT 06030-1319.
