St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Chemical Biology & Therapeutic

Summary

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Overview

We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate (a Cell and Molecular Biologist) to join the efforts in chemically modulating transcription factors. The Chen Lab (https://www.stjude.org/research/labs/chen-lab-taosheng.html) uses multidisciplinary approaches to study transcriptional regulation by nuclear receptors, including chemical biology approaches to develop chemical modulators, with a goal to understand nuclear receptor-regulated transcription networks and design therapeutic approaches to overcome drug resistance and tumorigenesis in cellular and animal models. The cell and molecular biology efforts are expected to synergize with our pharmacology, structural biology, and medicinal chemistry efforts and enable publication of impactful papers (e.g., Nat Commun 8:741, 2017; J Am ChemSoc 143:18467, 2021; Nucleic Acids Res 50:3254, 2022). We work closely with the High Throughput Bioscience (HTB) Center (directed by Dr. Chen) (https://www.stjude.org/research/departments/chemical-biology-therapeutics/high-throughput-biosciences.html) on target validation, assay development, and compound screening.

The Chen Lab provides a unique training environment: in addition to basic research, the postdoctoral fellow will learn and gain experience in small molecule drug discovery from target validation, chemical probe discovery to preclinical mechanistic studies. Former Chen Lab postdocs have landed jobs as Assistant Professors in Universities, Senior Scientists in Pharmaceutical Companies, or Staff Scientists at St. Jude.

Starting at $70,000 (effective October 2, 2022)

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral fellow will study the regulation of nuclear receptors such as PXR and CAR, or the novel heterodimerization between PXR, CAR and other nuclear receptors, including investigating the mechanism of action of chemical probes (i.e., novel ligands and protein degraders developed in the lab) that target PXR, CAR, and the PXR-CAR interface.

Minimum Education

Highly motivated individuals with a strong publication record are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have (or soon receive) a PhD degree. The successful candidate will have a strong background in cell and molecular biology. Experience in studying transcriptional regulation and protein-protein interaction, is a plus.
