Description

The world has been facing extreme climatic conditions viz. extreme high or low precipitation, extreme temperature rises, heat waves, storms, sea level rise as a consequences of Global Warming. On the other hand, world is struggling to meet the SDGs goal 7 in terms of providing sustainable energy access and enhancing energy efficiency. In this pretext, Linnaeus University, Department of Built Environment & Energy Technology, is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on how digital tools can help in addressing energy sustainability, and climate mitigation and adaptation.

The postdoc fellow will also contribute to our ongoing project (funded by FORMAS) with (i) Spatial mapping of the type and level of climate risks (flooding, storm, and erosion) expected to occur in different geological and climatic zones within Sweden. (ii) Examining the market implication of the climate change to the property valuation and the financial benefits of doing climate smart retrofits. These kind of information could be beneficial for examples for Bankers in evaluating loan investment risks whereas insurance companies could use such information in deciding the insurance premium.

Besides, the postdoc fellow will have opportunity to collaborate with PhD researchers from developing countries visiting Linnaeus University under the multidisciplinary Doctoral school in Sustainable energy engineering (SEED) research mobility programme.

The postdoc fellow is expected to actively participate in the institution's environment and network, both internally and externally, develop new project ideas and apply for external funding. Some teaching and supervision within the undergraduate and advanced levels can be included in the tasks.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible to be employed are those who have completed a doctoral degree in energy technology or environmental engineering or building technology or doctoral degree in the field of energy and sustainable built environment subject area, or has a reached the corresponding competence no more than three years before the end of the application period.

Applicant must not have been earlier employed as a Post doctor fellow for more than one year in the same or adjoining subject areas at Linnaeus University.

Eligibility for this position requires demonstrated scientific competence in the area mentioned before. Good competency in English is a requirement.

Evaluation and selection criteria

  Research experience in the areas of energy and climate change, energy efficiency in buildings

  Knowledge of spatial tools and data-driven approaches such as machine learning will add values

  Experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or advanced levels in the subject area

  Proven track record of publication will be preferable.

  Experience in applying for external project funds is desirable

The work is done in a research group, which is why collaboration and flexibility are given great importance.

In the overall assessment, particular importance is attached to an assessment of the potential of the applicants for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
