We are currently seeking a Research Fellow to join a research project funded by EPSRC, focussed on the discovery of ‘Next Generation Biomaterials'. The successful candidate will join highly motivated and well-funded research teams within the Schools of Pharmacy, Life Sciences and Medicine, and the Faculty of Engineering.

The PDRA position advertised here will work on Research Challenge 4 (Advanced Materials for Medical Devices). The overall aim of the project is development and characterisation of bio-instructive polymers/surfaces with particular emphasis on modulating dendritic cells (DCs) function. The work involves using a range of materials fabrication methods, analytical techniques and cell-based assays including but not limited to DC-T cell co-cultures, multi- cell co-cultures, tumour killing assays, high content cell phenotyping, cytokine production and extra cellular matrix characterisation.

The post will be based within the School of Life Sciences and led by Professor Amir Ghaemmaghami. The candidate will be required to undertake research and day-to-day management of this research project that requires a high degree of competence in one or more of the research areas listed. An aptitude for critical thinking and a flexible approach to collaborative research is essential, since the project will interact with multiple researchers and disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibility in order to meet the demands of the project and this will play a major role in ensuring the success of the project.

Candidates must have a PhD in immunology/cell biology/materials sciences, together with a keen interest in and competency in materials discovery, characterisation, and their biomedical applications.

This full-time (36.25 hours per week) post is fixed term until 30th June 2022. Arrangements for job share would be considered.
