Research Fellow in Medical Statistics

Plymouth University

Description

This post is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated statistician to contribute to research, consultancy and teaching activities in the Medical Statistics Group at the University of Plymouth.

The Medical Statistics group provides a methodological platform and support for large-scale and wide-ranging clinical trials and other well-designed studies through supporting the UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU). PenCTU has a portfolio of multi-centre randomised control trials across a wide range of clinical areas, providing the post holder with a wealth of data and varied experience.

The group has established networks with local collaborators, including the local NHS, NIHR RDS-SW and the University of Plymouth School of Engineering, Computing & Mathematics, as well as with research groups nationally and internationally. The group's research encompasses clinical trials and pragmatic health services research (e.g. RCTs of medicinal products and complex interventions) and biomedical and clinical studies (e.g. screening and diagnostics; longitudinal studies), with strong links with all areas of the Faculty of Health, the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research (PIHR), and with the wider medical and health-related research community.

Working across both the Medical Statistics Group and PenCTU you will provide statistical expertise to ensure delivery in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials and other well-designed studies. You will support the Medical Statistics research collaborations, consultancy and teaching.

You will be expected both to support externally funded research, and to identify and work with senior colleagues to develop research ideas and contribute to funding proposals.

You will also contribute to the teaching commitments of the group, undertake supervision of postgraduate students and support less experienced colleagues. We are particularly keen to develop capacity in our areas of strength, including clinical trials, longitudinal studies and risk assessment and screening, as well as developing the methodological work of the group.

To undertake research in line with University/School's strategy and to carry out leadership, management and engagement activities. To support research informed teaching and learning. All activities undertaken within this role will be compliant with the University's policies, including Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Ethics, Data Protection etc.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis, however, applications are welcomed from candidates wishing to work part-time. Please indicate your preference in your supporting statement. The Medical Statistics Group has adopted a hybrid model, where employees are only required to come into the office on the same days as their team. The rest of the time, unless there is a meeting best done in person, you'll have the flexibility to work from home at least two days a week.

Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
