Job description

The Institute of Data Science at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on projects related to computational social sciences/network science.

Specific problems include modeling information diffusion in online social environments, addressing the spread of disinformation, measuring polarization and adoption of behavior, reassessing the conflict between data privacy and the need for accountability on social platforms. Of particular interest are topics that acknowledge multi- and cross-platform processes and the interplay between offline events and online interactions.

The full-time position is offered for a period of 2 years, with yearly evaluations.

The successful candidate will:

1. Support the R&D activities of the department in the field of computational social sciences.

2. (Co-)author scientific, peer-reviewed papers, submitted to top conferences and journals in related areas.

3. Provide support and/or manage funding acquisition activities and proposal writing (national and international, e.g. Horizon Europe).

4. Support the department in teaching activities.

Requirements

1. A Ph.D. degree (already completed or to be completed shortly) in computer science or a closely related field.

2. Strong computational and data science skills and solid knowledge of network science.

3. Excellent English language skills.

4. Very good presentation, communication, and organization skills.

5. Interest in grant proposal preparation and coordination.

6. Interested in collaborative research and open to interdisciplinary work

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

The intended starting date of this position is November 1, 2021.

The salary will be set in scale 11 (between € 3.870 and € 5.211 gross per month) depending on education and relevant work experience. On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO). Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. Non- Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).
