Postdoc In Ship Emission Measurements

Information about the project Ships emit significant amounts of sulfur oxide, nitric oxide and particles. Within the next years there will be requirements for new ships in northern Europe to decrease the nitric oxide emissions and to decrease the fuel sulfur content worldwide. Particulate emissions are also discussed in relation with arctic shipping and air pollution.. The work will include experimental measurements with various particle and gas phase instruments, including optical instruments (DOAS and FTIR), particle counting devices and several gas sensors, including an ultrasensitive laser spectrometer. The measurements will be carried out in the laboratory, in a test engine and downwind of real ships from drones, fixed stations, aircraft and patrol vessels. The work will be carried out within a Horizon 2020 EU project, and a Vinnova project focused on drone measurements and include participation in several international field experiments. Major responsibilities The position includes experimental ship emission measurements of gases and particles, instrument development and data analysis.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Driving licence is mandatory. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Position summary Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to one year initially.
