The Virology Division in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University
of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Scholar to study protective
immune responses in human skin and mucosal surfaces against viral pathogens, including
human herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. The research program seeks to expand the
development of 3-D ‘tissue organoids’ and/or ‘organ-on-chip’ platforms based on our current
‘skin-on-chip’ microfluidic device with advanced microvascular network. Our goal is to delineate
the recruitment and function of various innate and adaptive immune components in response to
human HSV infection, and to evaluate newly discovered antiviral drugs and compounds. The
candidate will conduct independent research and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of
bioengineers, clinicians and researchers.
Qualifications:
Desired candidate will have a relevant PhD degree, experience and knowledge in the fields of
Bioengineering, Immunology, Virology, or Infectious Disease. The candidate must be highly
motivated, have a strong desire to develop cutting-edge technology, and be proficient in
microscopic imaging. Strong analytical, writing, communication and problem-solving skills are
preferred. Individuals with less than five (5) years of postdoc experience are eligible for this
position.
Please submit a cover letter describing research interests and career goals, curriculum vitae,
and three reference letters to: jiazhu@uw.edu
