Postdoctoral Fellow - Hodgson Lab

Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein)

Postdoctoral Researcher position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Louis Hodgson at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. We engineer fluorescent biosensors for high-resolution live-cell imaging of cellular signaling pathways. We seek motivated candidates with backgrounds in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, protein engineering, and light microscopy imaging.

The Hodgson lab is developing monomeric, single-chain Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based biosensors for Rho family small GTPases and their downstream targets. We most recently pioneered a multiple FRET biosensor technology in which we visualized two orthogonal FRET biosensors in the same cell at the same time (Nat. Chem. Biol.: PMID: 29686359). We develop these biosensors and apply them in real, hypothesis-driven biology research in our laboratory. Our model systems include breast cancer invasion and metastasis (Nat. Cell Biol. PMID: 24859002 ; J. Cell Biol. PMID: 9061650; J. Cell Sci. PMID: 23704350; Curr. Biol. PMID: 21474314), macrophage motility and chemotaxis (J. Immunol. PMID: 26951800), and other general cell biology of cellular motility (Nat. Chem. Biol. PMID: 27501396).

The Hodgson laboratory is located within the state-of-the-art Gruss-Lipper Biophotonics Center and the Microscopy Innovation Laboratories at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. We collaborate with investigators from both within Einstein and from multiple leading academic research institutions. We have access to sophisticated core facilities and services, and the departmental support from the Anatomy and Structural Biology include weekly invited seminars by leading investigators, journal clubs, work-in-progress seminars, workshops as well as other social and professional events organized also by the Einstein Belfer Institute for Postdoctoral Research.

The ideal candidate should have recently (preferably within 0-1yr) obtained a PhD in cell and molecular biology, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering or a related field and expertise in at least one of the following areas:

Immunology: macrophage cell culture; lentiviral production and transduction; chemotaxis assays; working knowledge in chemokine signaling pathways.

• Molecular and Cell Biology:  Molecular cloning; DNA processing and purification; protein engineering; structural analysis; site-directed mutagenesis; random-mutagenesis and screening; Cell culture, siRNA, CRISPR/cas9; Westernblots.

• Light microscopy: Live-cell imaging; quantitative imaging; ratiometric analysis; fluorescence lifetime imaging; FRET imaging; superresolution microscopy, TIRF-microscopy.

Salary is commensurate with recommended NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines funded by NIH research grants. https://www.nationalpostdoc.org/page/Stipends

Interested individuals should send cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Louis Hodgson, Associate Professor of Anatomy and Structural Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; louis.hodgson@einsteinmed.org
