Position Summary    The Computer-Human Interaction Laboratory (CHIL) at Rice University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to take a leading role in an NSF-funded project on using computational cognitive modeling in ACT-R to assess the usability of voting systems, particularly the design of ballots. The ultimate goal of this project is to produce a tool that can take a ballot design as input and produce an assessment of possible error-causing layout features. There will also be a validation phase that involves the collection of new behavioral data, so skills in behavioral research are also necessary. The position is fully funded for three years, with possible continuation contingent on additional funding.

Education Required PhD or other Doctoral Degree

Major/Discipline      Cognitive psychology, cognitive science, computer science or related field.

Skills Required - Experience in ACT-R modeling or similar computational experience

Physical Demands   Standard, walking, sitting, reaching, using computer/keyboard.
