We are seeking a motivated and committed post-doctoral fellow to join our pediatric cancer research team, effective September 2020. The research project will investigate mechanisms of sarcoma metatasis. In particular, it will focus on discovering how reprogramming of metabolic stress response pathways drives tumor heterogeneity and disease progression. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the fundamentals of cancer biology and advanced knowledge and skills in cell signaling, genetics, and/or cellular metabolism. Experience with tumor xenograft models or a strong commitment to learn these skills is also essential. Responsibilities of the role will include development and execution of in vitro and in vivo research, data collection and analysis, manuscript and fellowship application preparation, and training in the conduct of research rigor and reproducibility.

Our lab is located at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, in downtown Seattle, and is affiliated with both the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The fellowship project is financially supported by an external research grant from Stand Up to Cancer/AACR and also by internal funding. As such, outstanding and abundant intellectual and financial resources are available to successfully advance the project, as well as the fellow’s own career development.

As a post-doctoral fellow in our collaborative and energetic group, that is committed to supporting diversity and equity, you will receive strong mentorship and be provided with opportunities to present your research locally as well as at national meetings. You will also have the opportunity to teach and mentor more junior trainees and staff in the lab and be encouraged and supported to prepare your own research grant applications to help advance your career towards independence.

Competitive applicants will have published at least 1 first author paper during their doctoral training, have broad and advanced skills in cellular and molecular biology, and have demonstrated a commitment to a career in cancer research. Applications from new graduates and early career scientists from under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

Required Education/Experience:

- PhD in cancer biology or related discipline from an accredited university training program

- Experience using basic research techniques of molecular and cellular biology in the context of cancer

- Demonstrated productivity as evidenced by at least one first author publication from PhD training

Preferred:

- Knowledge and experience in ChIP-seq, Cut & Run, other next generation sequencing technologies

- Experience in culture of tumor cell lines as well as primary human mesenchymal stem cells

- Previous experience conducting in vivo tumor research in immune deficient mice
