  Job Description

  The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will do the planning and conducting of projects related to flow cytometry, cell culture and molecular biology in support of a project on HIV which is funded by NIH. The Postdoctoral Associate must demonstrate initiative in conduct of research.

  The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  Perform complex laboratory assignments, including the planning and conducting of projects related to cell culture immunology including flow cytometry and molecular biology. Schedule and perform experiments in research laboratory. Conduct research independently and with good laboratory practice.

  Solve problems in scientific and technical execution, interpret experimental data and maintain accurate records.

  May need to develop, adapt and implement new lab procedures.

  Provide technical assistance to lab members. Perform complex and routine molecular biology procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, Q-PCR, DNA/RNA extraction.

  Assist in the preparation of data and figures for manuscripts and for scientific presentations using Power Point, and other graphics software as needed. Write manuscripts for peer reviewed journals.

  Order supplies and maintain accounting files for laboratory.

  Search literature for references to technical problems and keep informed by reading technical journal and publications. Provide assistance to the P.I. in research related to P.I. projects.

  Present data in laboratory meetings and journal club, and give presentations that include background research.

  Teach basic and applied immunology to students and new members of the laboratory.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral-level degree. Must have good understanding of immunology and HIV/AIDS. Understanding of flow cytometry data analysis and statistics/bioinformatics are desirable.
