Mentis and Shneider Labs

  Motor Neuron Center

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (USA). The laboratory of Dr. George Mentis (www.mentislab.org) in the Motor Neuron Center (MNC) at Columbia University is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to study the physiological mechanisms that contribute to selective motor neuron dysfunction and degeneration in mouse models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In collaboration with Dr. Neil Shneider in the MNC, the postdoctoral fellow will focus on novel as well as established models of familial ALS to characterize disease-relevant changes in motor neuron behavior that are common to various forms of ALS.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in neuroscience and expertise in physiological assays (patch clamp, optogenetics), morphological methods, and confocal microscopy. Candidates with a PhD in Neuroscience or Physiology are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should email a cover letter indicating their research interests and experience, a CV and contact details to Dr. George Mentis (gzmentis@columbia.edu).

The Motor Neuron Center (MNC) at Columbia University (www.columbiamnc.org) brings together basic and clinical science groups working on various aspects of motor neuron biology and disease to facilitate breakthroughs in the field of motor neuron research. The ALS pre-clinical program of the MNC is closely associated with the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center at Columbia.

Columbia University takes affirmative action to ensure equal opportunity.
