Description
Announcing a 3-year postdoctoral research position in Denis Pelli's lab in Psychology at NYU, supported by NIH grant to Denis Pelli, Jon Winawer, & Yann LeCun, in computational modeling of human object recognition in clutter.
Crowding is a computational bottleneck in human object recognition. Is crowding just a nuisance, or is it the key to understanding how an object is recognized by a limited number of neurons?
Pelli’s lab is in the Psychology Dept., on the same elevator as the Center for Neural Science and our 3T magnet, two blocks from Courant and Facebook. Salary will be $48,432 or higher, based on experience.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will integrate psychophysical crowding thresholds, fMRI retinotopy, and computational modeling to understand crowding and the first stage of object recognition. This project is a collaboration with Jon Winawer's lab, which will do the fMRI scans and retinotopy, and Yann LeCun, who will advise on deep learning.
We expect:
Interest in modeling visual function.
Some experience in exploratory modeling.
Experience with deep learning.
Strong programming (Python/MATLAB) and math skills.
Knowledge of visual science would help.
Application Instructions
Interested applicants must apply through the Interfolio link. Please submit a curriculum vita with a letter explaining your suitability and interest. Letters of recommendation can wait until requested.
