The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position in theoretical condensed matter physics, Dirac materials and materials simulation.

The position is available from 1.9.2018 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description/research project/research area

We have an opening for a postdoctoral position in theoretical condensed matter physics, Dirac materials and in materials simulation.

The position will be funded by the VILLUM Centre of Excellence for Dirac Materials (www.villumcdm.org), with resources shared between Aarhus University and the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Stockholm (www.nordita.org). The main mission of the centre is the prediction, realization and characterization of novel Dirac materials in a broad sense. To this end, the centre combines advanced theoretical and computational electronic structure approaches with a broad range of experimental tools spanning synthesis, structural characterization and electronic structure investigations in Aarhus and Nijmegen.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in physics.

Additional qualifications for this project:  •Experience with performing Density Functional Theory simulations.

•Basic knowledge of topological band theory and experience in characterizing topological order from ab-initio simulations.

The place of work is Ny Munkegade 120, 8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

There is funding for 2 years of employment. In case further external funding is procured within the academic area the candidate is estimated obviously qualified for, an extension can be possible for up to a total maximum of 4 years employment as a post doc.

Applications should include a CV and publication list, a statement of research interests and three letters of reference.

Applicants are encouraged to contact Nicola Lanata (lanata@phys.au.dk) and Philip Hofmann (philip@phys.au.dk) before submitting their application.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Guidelines for applicants can be found here.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of their personal background. Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
