Teagasc Post Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 (PD1) - Food processing/seafood processing

The Agriculture and Food Development Authority - Teagasc

Eligibility: PhD in a relevant discipline with up to 3 years’ (max.) relevant experience. 

Post Duration: 12 months
Location: Teagasc, Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15.

Training Rate: Appointment will be at the minimum point of the Post Doctoral Level 1 (PD1) scale (€33,975).

The current PD1 scale is as follows: PD1: €33,975 (min.); €34,974; €36,003 (max.)

Increments will be awarded annually* subject to performance and completion of the prescribed training plan.

Basic Function of the post: The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority is seeking to fill a short term Food Technologist position at the Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown.  The successful candidate will be involved in the application of novel food processing technologies including high pressure processing, cold plasma and ozone processing on range of fish products.  The primary role of the candidate is to develop a comprehensive toolbox of optimized existing and novel technologies for developing healthy, high quality, safe and sustainable fish products from pelagic fish species.  The candidate will work in close collaboration with other partners from Norway (Norwegian University of Science and Technology & SINTEF), Poland (National Marine Fisheries Research Institute) and Italy (University of Perugia in meeting the deliverables of the project.

Background: The successful candidate will be based at the Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15.  At Ashtown, there are over 100 scientists and technicians providing research, training and technical services for the food sector.  Areas of expertise at Ashtown include processing technologies, sensory science, consumer behaviour, cereal science, meat science, food safety and nutraceutical bioactive discovery. 

Person Specification

Essential

  • PhD in Food Science/Technology or related discipline.
  • Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years’ post-PhD.

Desirable

  • Experience in food/fish processing.
  • Demonstrated research and technical expertise in marine sciences, biochemical analysis and food microbiology.
