Postdoctoral Positions in Multi-Omics Bioinformatics

Albert Einstein College of Medicine

The Vijg Laboratory at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is actively seeking 1-2 highly motivated bioinformaticians interested in training in integrative analysis of genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic large-scale datasets.

Research focus: The Vijg lab is interested in understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms that underlie intrinsic aging and its relationship with age-related disease in humans, such as cancer. The lab has developed single-cell whole genome sequencing approaches to study various types of genome and epigenome instability, e.g., base substitutions, genome structural variations, DNA methylation, in primary human tissues. Current work is focused on the functional impact of mutation and epimutation accumulation with age, its relationship to longevity and its possible role as a risk factor for age-related diseases, such as cancer. The lab uses advanced genomic technologies and genome engineering tools to study the impact of specific genotypes of genome maintenance on age-related genome instability. The lab specializes in single-cell genomics approaches and advanced computational analysis of various types of genome instability.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in multiple projects involving design, implementation and integration of large-scale datasets and data processing pipelines. The candidate will also perform advanced modeling of pathology risks based on interaction between specific genotypes and accumulated aging-related mutational load using approaches including generalized linear models and deep learning.

Application Requirements:

1.Ph.D. or M.D. or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences or Computational Biology

2.A record of publications from Ph.D. or prior postdoctoral training work.

3.Working knowledge of sequencing technology and next-generation-sequencing hardware and software

4.Next-Generation Sequencing data analysis experience

5.Strong background in statistics and experience with statistical analysis tools

6.Prior training in molecular genetics and molecular biology is desired

7.Excellent written and verbal English skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be capable of working with large collaborative teams.

To apply, please email your CV and a short cover letter summarizing your experience, along with the contact information of three references to jan.vijg@einsteinmed.org addressed to Jan Vijg, Ph.D., Professor of Genetics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY

The Scientific Community: Albert Einstein College of Medicine offers a highly interactive and stimulating academic environment for scientists in training who also benefit from the programs within the Aging Institute, the Department of Genetics, the Cancer Center and throughout the school. We are located in a pleasant residential area in the northeast corner of New York City with an easy commute to Manhattan and the suburbs of Westchester County. We offer competitive salary and benefit packages with optional postdoctoral housing on campus.

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information. Einstein seeks candidates whose skills, and personal and professional experience, have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence, and the communities we serve.
